Day 3

Big Bone Lick State Park, Kentucky

Today we woke up to cloudy skies and had a leisurely morning. After breakfast, we went for a hike together on one of the trails at the campground that took us to the lake and back. We had the trail all to ourselves-it was good practice for the younger two to get some of their complaining out of the way as we explained that there would be MANY more hikes to come on the remainder of our trip. By the time we got back to the campsite we were drenched with sweat because of the humid air. We took a few minutes to cool off and then packed up to go to the Answers in Genesis Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY.
We took a back roads route to the museum, even though it was only a few minutes away via the interstate. There were a lot of really interesting symbols painted on the barns at the different farms-many of them looked like quilt squares. We will have to find out the significance of those. We drove along the Ohio River looking across into Indiana-very scenic. Before we went to the museum, we made a quick stop at Graeter’s-an ice cream  store/bakery that we have heard from friends that Cincinnati is famous for. It was worth the trip! The kids enjoyed their pretzel cones-a little salty with their sweet, and I got to enjoy some Buckeye ice cream-my favorite flavor-perfect for being in the buckeye state!
We got 2-day tickets to the museum so we could take our time and enjoy everything at a non-rushed pace. The kids enjoyed being able to feed and pet the animals in the petting zoo-Leah enjoyed the goats and sheep and donkey, and Bay liked the donkey and camel. Heather tried to kiss the camel-but he wasn’t up to it!
We are now parked outside a Starbucks to get these blog posts up on the site for you to read!

Eric being such a pleasant young man!
I was afraid I might actually get a kiss, so I kept my distance. He was a sweet camel-when we fed him he so gingerly took the food out of our hands. And his tuft of hair on top of his head was SO soft!
This is very brave for Leah
The boys at the Noah's Ark exhibit-Dennis is thinking of all of the wood projects he has built and marveling at the immensity of the work that Noah did! With God, anything is possible, Dennis!

  2. I went on a missions trip this July and our team made time for both Graeter's and The Creation Museum. I enjoyed both immensely. :)
